Our Story

Founded on a Simple Belief

Hidden Jewel Acres was founded by Sheila Carroll, RN, whose nearly three decades as a nurse — in long-term care, hospice, leadership, and education — gave her a deep understanding of what truly meaningful engagement looks like and why it matters. She built this sanctuary on a belief that animals and people both benefit when they are seen beyond labels, behaviors, past experiences, or circumstances. Operating on approximately 40 leased acres near Malcolm, Nebraska, we currently care for 61 resident animals.
